Sitting with Trump

If I had the ability to sit in a room with our president, Donald Trump, there would be numerous words exchanged. I know he stands on a platform of racism so we would need to discuss many issues in regards to race. Will he do anything to help minorities or does he just stand to help wealthy white men like him? Since I only have 30 minutes with him I would want to discuss police brutality, college and student loans, and mass incarceration.
For as long as the police force has been running, there is corruption within it. Very recently there have been many instances of innocent men, women, and even children getting abused by police. Most of the people targeted are African-American or of other minority race groups. Often times the police do these disgusting acts of violence with no repercussions. What are you as a president going to do about this? Will you force punishment for those who have broken their oath to protect and serve? Will you implement new policies like body cameras so the violence is prevented altogether? Being our president, you already have people who don’t believe in your abilities, will you stand you ground and try to help America get rid of these corrupt officers.
As an African-American girl growing up on the southside of Chicago, college had always been a far out thought of mine. But now that I am applying and getting accepted I realize I barely have the money to pay for it. My parents took the route of taking out student loans over 20 years ago and are still paying for them. College should not be so expensive that students are weary of going to their top choice because of the price. I know that since they took out loans the price has only gone up, so with my dream of going to medical school, it looks like I will be paying loans until I die. A new system needs to be put in place so students can go to college for cheaper.
Mass incarceration is a huge problem in the US due to petty laws and missed opportunities. While the big prison companies are making money from putting people in jail, the country is losing money for putting them in. One way to change this is legalizing marijuana. People claim it’s dangerous and using it should be a serious crime, but alcohol causes more deaths per year. If anything someone’s whole record shouldn’t be destroyed all because of 2 blunts in the trunk. Police also target hispanics and blacks majority of the time forcing more minorities into jail. Young African-American males make up majority of the population in prisons but barely make up the population of the US. There is no reason that standardized testing in the third grade determines if they’re going to build a new cell for you. The prison pipeline has to end. From a young age they are placed on the path and majority of the time and not given the opportunity to step off. More programs should be put in place for at-risk youth to where they don’t end up in jail. Change in policy will reduce the number of people in prison.
As a president you’re supposed to stand for the people. Since our country is so diverse something needs to change so it’s not just people like you are being benefitted. You say, “Make America Great Again” but America has never been great. As a president you can try to make it better than what it was before. Try not to destroy all the Obama has built because of your ego.
