iOS 10 Brings GamePigeon

8-BallDo you have an iPhone? Don’t miss out on the latest craze! Along with the release of Apple’s most anticipated software update yet, iOS 10, came iMessage games. This means that iOS users can now play games with their contacts in iMessage. The addition of this software is especially interesting because Apple is known for not allowing third-party apps to be installed on any of its devices; but in iOS 10, they have changed this fact and redesigned the iMessage app entirely, bringing with it an altogether more interactive experience to be enjoyed between friends and family that use iMessage. The downloadable apps on your iPhone or iPad have had the students at Whitney Young going crazy. Justyn Spann ‘18, an avid cell phone user said, “The phrase ‘Play me in 8-Ball,’ can be heard echoing throughout the halls during any break and could be a great conversation starter and friendship builder among students.” GamePigeon is one of the hottest iMessage apps to play right now. Currently, there are 14 games available to play within GamePigeon: 8-Ball, Sea Battle, Anagrams, Knockout, Tanks, Checkers, Poker, Four in a Row, Word Hunt, Five in a Row, Dots & Boxes, Mancala, 20 questions, and 9-Ball. GamePigeon is always releasing more games with every update to the app so the list will likely expand until there isn’t one game not included in its library. Skyler Steele ‘18 exclaimed, “GamePigeon should make it possible to play more than a 2 person game. That would be really fun!” In the app, games are only available to be played in one conversation thread which bothers some. Majesty Cain ‘18 said, “I wish I could play iMessage games with my friends. A little friendly competition is always good but I have an Android phone so I can’t play iMessage games.” Unfortunately, right now GamePigeon is exclusive to iOS 10 and the iMessage app store. Hopefully, GamePigeon will expand its app to include the wants of its players but for now, this edition provides lots of fun to be had by its users.
