Whitney Young Soccer Club

The Whitney Young High School soccer club some call the corps is a deeply rooted tradition for many soccer players at the school. Everyday regardless of how hot or cold minus the tennis season you can see soccer players on the tennis courts sweating, running, and playing hard.

When asked about the club’s tradition Rodrigo Vazquez says,” It’s a fun way to relieve stress and meet new people at the school. “The game starts on two halves of a tennis court. The players stack up in the gated fence and routinely play a soccer game. Unlike regular soccer the gate acts like another player. Players are allowed to kick off the gate and proceed making it hard to kick the ball out of bounds. These rules making the game pace faster and more time for more players to join in.

Another well known player named Credo Duarte and a player on Whitney Young’s Varsity soccer team says, “it’s an exciting and thrilling experience playing in the club.” With the availability of the tennis courts and the open environment it makes the game open for anyone to join in. Now that doesn’t mean their isn’t good competition. Just like Credo there are many other Whitney Young soccer players and good club players that you can see on the courts.

Now with the newly added benches to the tennis courts you don’t have to play to watch these guys ball out. The new benches added recently make it a lot easier to get a good close up of the action without your sight being blocked by the fence. However you might want to keep your guard up because a ball can shoot up at you at any moment.

With all the clubs that Whitney Young offers this one gives everyone an opportunity to find what they enjoy. It’s important to find new things and maybe try things you might have not before.
