The Whitney Young Boy’s Varsity team was the state’s 4A Champion in 2014, is ranked in the top 10 Illinois high school teams in the 2016-2017 preseason rankings. Notable alumni include top player in the country, Jahlil Okafor, #3 in the NBA draft playing with the Philadelphia 76ers. Brimming with young talent, coach Tyrone Slaughter has an outstanding foundation of youth that is ready to shine and surprise, starting  with 6’1 junior Xavier Castenada, one of the top point guards in the state. Junior shooter Justin Boyd, 6’4 and senior Lucas Williamson will step up now with bigger opportunities. Other contributors include: Craig Beaudion, a 6’4 guard; Jake Kosakowski, a 6’5 junior; and 6’6 senior Justin Stovall. A transfer from Seton includes Javon Freeman, a 6’4 guard.

“The season is going to go great. We have a veteran team with mostly seniors and juniors that know what has to be done to win. I’m looking forward to having the pep rally for going down state and having the whole school rocking. Our toughest competition will be when we play Simeon on December 21 here at Whitney Young and North Lawndale on January 25, 2017.”
