The Rematch

We count down the days to “The Rematch.” With city playoffs only 4 days away WY High School Football team making with a record of 2-6, face their rival for longer 16 years the Payton Grizzlies who hold a record of 7-1 and are undefeated in their conference. The record doesn’t speak to the intensity of this game, It’s going to be one for the ages.

WY faced Payton earlier this season losing 14-6. The score reflects the physicality of this game. With the score 7-6 in the fourth quarter Payton broke a big run that led to a touchdown pass. WY lost after a desperation long throw was intercepted that ended the game. WY captain Ellis Bobbitt said earlier this week, “I’m excited for the chance to play a team that I couldn’t play against earlier in the year. It’s going to be a different outcome this time.”

I asked lineman Daniel Belk 21’ about his emotions on the rematch against Payton Friday night. He said, “It makes me feel like I get a chance at redemption because as a freshman I didn’t get much playing time at first, but now as we get towards the end of the season the coaches trust me more to make plays. This game I plan to really make plays and have a bigger impact on the overall performance of the team.”

Quinlan Scott 18’ has been pushed into a starting lineman role this week so I asked him how he feels to be a starter and what must he do to keep his starting spot. He said, “ I feel nervous of course,  but to keep my spot as a starter I need to work for my teammates, especially being a part of the offensive line. Failing isn’t just about disappointing them it’s also about if I fail I can get someone hurt. I need my teammates help to win this game as much as they need me.”

When it’s all said and done both WY and Walter Payton High school teams feel they should win this game, but only one team can advance to the next round. Will it be the Dolphins or the Grizzlies? Find out who wins this week 10/21/16 7:15 pm @Lane Tech Stadium. Don’t miss it!
