Alina Srichinda ’16 gives us the scoop on her fashion endeavors and advice for future designers.

Q: How would you describe your own personal style and the clothes you design? 

I can’t really narrow down my personal style because my interests are varied. But I like clothes that are unique and that I know someone else won’t be wearing the same day. For the past two years, I was a part of the Chicago Fashion Festival where I have featured two collections each year. My first year was 2014 when I showcased two 10 piece outfits centered on solid colored fabrics and everyday wear. My second year was focused on semi casual black and gold wear. I ended that collection with a black floor length gown with hand decorated gold trailing at the bottom.

Q: What is one of your favorite pieces that you have made?

In 2014, I featured my “drop dress,” which could be unzipped from a mid-length everyday dress to a floor-length gown, as my final piece and decided to submit it to Illinois high school innovators. I received an award for being in the top 10 and through that experience, I have been inspired to work with innovative fashion.

Q: Do you have any advice for other aspiring fashion designers?

Get involved. Don’t be afraid to put yourself and your work out there for the world to see your talents. Going to a variety of fashion shows has taught me about the fashion world and the importance of publicity and making connections.
