Boys Volleyball sets the way to city

Midway through the spring season, the WY Boys volleyball team is working harder than ever to bring home the City Title in the upcoming month. Despite setbacks such as player injuries, the boys continue to widen the gap on their close record of three wins to two losses.

Under the leadership of coach Thomas Guzi, a former all-American and Loyola University Men’s Volleyball captain, the team spends two hours a day conditioning and drilling in order to ensure their victory during the City Championship.

“Guzi’s a great coach.” says player Jonah Moroh, 16’ “He pushes us really hard and keeps the intensity going in practice, which is absolutely crucial”.

The volleyball team is anything but short of leadership. Along with the head coach, captains Josiah Nodal, Alan Nguyen, and Miles Miller, help run warm-ups, as well as fire up the boys for tournaments and matches.

“I like to focus my primary attention to making sure everybody’s focused and pumped up for a match. It’s really important that we all bond and seek out the same goal together, as a team” says team captain Josiah Nodal, 15’.

The team has had a rough start to the season, however, beginning with the ankle injury of Miles Miller, a captain as well as a starter. Although Miles is expected to make a swift recovery, the team has still had to suffer the loss to their rival Walter Payton College Prep, by a mere two points nonetheless.

Despite the loss to Walter Payton and New Trier, WY has trumped over Lincoln Park, Schurz, and Taft, and looks forward to seeing the latter two at City.

“If anything, losing to Payton and New Trier got us even more fired up for City,” says Moroh, “I can’t wait to wipe them off the court”.
