The WY water polo teams have won multiple games against top teams. Both the boys and girls are consistently top 3 finishers in the city. They play not only CPS schools but also several tournaments against suburban schools on the weekends.

“It’s very aggressive, like wrestling in the water,” said Lauren Williamson ‘16.

“As long as people remember to cut their toenails before practice, everything’s good,” said Claire Toney ‘17.

The boys and girls practice together under the direction of coaches Carlos and Luis Solis, brothers who are alumni of the WY water polo teams.

“Water polo is so different this year,” said captain Jessica Beal ‘15. “We have had so many things we have had to adjust to. But all in all, it’s been a good season.”

Since most of the polo players are also swimmers, they train together for most of the year. The girls polo team won city in 2012 and 2013.

“We have been doing really well this year and have improved from last year,” said Williamson. “We are excited for city champs. I think [we] will be a success this year.”

The polo teams will start their city tournament next week.
