“Dazed & Confused”

This Richard Linklater comedy film named after the famous Led Zeppelin song released in 1993 depicts the lives of different social groups of a Texas high school and the incoming freshman on the last day of school in 1976. The movie stars many actors in their earliest roles; Matthew McConaughey, who coins his famous phrase “Alright, alright alright,” Milla Jovovich, Rory Cochrane, Parker Posey, and many others. Not only does the movie have a memorable soundtrack, it also is filled with witty one-liners and varying plots to the many characters.

“Rock n Roll High School”

A musical comedy released in 1979, “Rock n Roll High School” features the Ramones in their film debut and focuses on the story of their Number  1 fan, Riff Randell, a high schooler at Vince Lombardi High School who aspires to meet Joey Ramone so she can give him a song she wrote for the band.

“Fast Times at Ridgemont High”

Directed by Amy Heckerling and written by Cameron Crowe based on his experiences as an undercover journalist at a high school in San Diego, “Fast Times at Ridgemont High” is a comedy that portrays the lives of seniors and their sophomore counterparts at Ridgemont High in Los Angeles. Brad Hamilton and his younger sister Stacy, her friend Mark, and surfing stoner Jeff Spicoli, played by Sean Penn take part in the troubles of 70s social life among their other friends, Linda and Mike, and a very early appearance of Nicholas Cage.

“The Runaways”

This 2010 drama film written and directed by Floria Sigismondi  is about the formation of the first all-girl rock band “The Runaways” in 1975 in Los Angeles. The cast includes Dakota Fanning as teenage Cherie Currie, Kristen Stewart as Joan Jett, and Michael Shannon as legendary music producer Kim Fowley. The film portrays the ups and downs of the band, from fame to breakup.

Almost Famous”

Directed by Cameron Crowe based on his experiences as a teenage journalist for Rolling Stone magazine in the early 1970s, “Almost Famous” is about  15 year old William Miller who follows the ficticious band Stillwater as he travels with them and the “Band Aids,” who are not groupies but the ones who “inspire the music.” Stars Patrick Fugit, Billy Crudup, Kate Hudson and Frances McDormand.
