Ensemble.

Nora Andrews
How long have you been playing?

I started taking music classes when I was 18 months old.
Which ensembles have you played for?

I’ve played in my elementary concert band, WY’s concert band and orchestra, all-city elementary and high school bands, the Protege Philharmonic Orchestra, and the 2012 IMEA District concert band. I was also a member in the Festival Orchestra for the 2013 Chicago Youth in Music Festival.

Why did you choose the flute?

My parents required me to choose an instrument so I said “Uhhh daddy, I’d like to play the harmonica… or the flute.” So, flute it was.
What is your favorite experience as a musician?

My favorite experience as a musician was definitely getting to play the first chair flute part my freshman year at Carnegie Hall. It was an amazing experience, both personally and musically. Do you think you’ll continue to pursue music as a college student? I’m going to continue to play flute in college with my university’s band or orchestra. I’m not really sure whether I’m going to pursue it as a degree, yet.

How has music impacted you?

Hugely. I stress parents to push their kids to start playing an instrument. It helps children grow so much socially and mentally. The experiences that I’ve had playing the flute have greatly enriched my confidence and love for music. It’s a hobby that I hope to continue for the rest of my life.
