Twitter blocked by CPS

Twitter was blocked on all CPS internet servers this week. The website seemed to be the last of social media outlets allowed by the board. Previously blocked websites include social media such as Facebook and Myspace and media streaming sites such as YouTube and Pandora.

According to assistant principal Melvin Soto, the block seemed like a mistake at first because even CPS used Twitter to promote itself and its schools. Problems arose when people began abusing the social media platform.

“The district had to block Twitter because there have been several accounts that are tweeting inappropriate pictures. Unfortunately, it will continue to be blocked for students,” said Soto.

Soto mentioned that the district is making zero exceptions on this rule. Schools have the ability to request that websites be unblocked on CPS internet, but that will not happen for Twitter.
