Kanyinsola Anifowoshe 19’ recently won a scholarship from the Jack Kent Foundation. She shares her application process and hopes for the schoalrship.

Q: So, you won a scholarship. Tell me about that.
A: The scholarship was by the Jack Kent Foundation. It pays for academic enrichment from now until grad school. If I want do like art classes or study abroad, they’ll basically pay for that kind of stuff. You get an advisor to help you look for scholarships and for opportunities and cool stuff to do.

Q: What was the application process like?
A: The process was really long, there were a lot of essays and short writing questions . They asked for a lot of questions on what you enjoy doing, and your extracurriculars.

Q: So when you start to apply to college, how are you going to use your scholarship?
A: The advisor works with you to get financial aid and scholarships to make it easier for me to find that sort of stuff and since they’ve known you since seventh grade that helps them find the scholarships for you. It’s pretty cool, and then the people who get the scholarship, it’s a really big community so you can hang out with people you know from there and make friends.

Q: What are your interests, what do you think you’ll do in college?
A: Right now I guess my plan is studying abroad in like France, eventually, and probably then trying to play an instrument because I’ve always wanted to learn that. And then taking some interesting classes, like cooking or art or writing.
