New school year, new you, and a new menu at Billy Goat Tavern. The $5 lunch special attracted Whitney Young Students from all lunch periods, whether that be in the early hours of Lunch A, or last but not least, Lunch D. It had a good run. Especially if you went out with friends, or when you could take your time during the week of Finals. You couldn’t go wrong with a hamburger/cheeseburger, hot fries, and a soft drink of your choice. However, things change as time passes.

Now, the Whitney Young Special price can range from $7 to $9; according to CNN, a mix of inflation and high demand has made food prices increase over the past year (CNN Business, 2022). But on the bright side, there are more options than before! If you wanted to, you could get a hot dog, chicken sandwich, or grilled cheese for your entrée, in addition to the option of a single or double cheeseburger/hamburger. As a side, you can have either potato chips or fries. And for a drink, you can choose between a 16 oz fountain drink or bottled water. Or, you can get 15% off any food purchase. As always, you need to show your school identification so that the employees can affirm that you are a student.

It’s important to take into account that this price change wasn’t meant to profit off of us students. Increased food prices affect many people and businesses, and it goes to show that Billy Goat is merely responding to the ever-changing world we all live in. After all, Billy Goat is a proud server of the Whitney Young Lunch Special. So, if you’re in high school (7th & 8th graders can’t go off campus for lunch) and plan to walk to Billy Goat, be prepared to bring some more money than last year and get ready to choose between more lunch options.
