We are nearing the end of the high school year (and ackie year), and with that comes summer! Back in elementary school, that meant going to camp or having fun at the pool, but now it means being a
camp counselor and making sure nobody drowns. But having fun isn’t so different from creating funds. That’s right, One Summer Chicago sent out emails encouraging you to apply for a summer job, and with that comes work experience and a little bit of bank. And yes, it wouldn’t hurt to earn back
some of the money you spent on Billy Goat, Dunkin’, or Getir all year.

One Summer Chicago offers jobs in the Chicago Park District, Chicago Public Libraries, Chicago Public Schools, Chicago Housing Authority, and more. Don’t be discouraged from trying something new; as long as you’re 14 years old, you can participate (with per- mission if you are under 18 years old). A summer job allows you to remain busy, and lets you add something to your resume. You can feel productive, and make money on top of that! All of this while helping out your Chicago community.

You are encouraged to apply to multiple jobs (just in case one fills up too quickly) and might be invited to an interview. Also, it is important to know that the One Summer Chicago programs won’t eat up all of your time; just in case the work hours dissuaded you, most of the programs are only 20 to 25 hours per week. If you are younger than 16 and need a work permit, head down to the counseling office; your guardians will need to reach out. Applications close June 10th. Getting a job this summer has its benefits, but whatever you choose to do, remember to have fun, Dolphins!
