Upcoming Music Festivals 2022

Dior Taylor, Contributing Writer

As the weather gets warmer, music festivals are coming up. The benefits of going to a music festival is the opportunity to see multiple artists that you like and to discover new music at the same time. Here is a list of 5 upcoming festivals, near and far.

Austin City Limits October 7-9, 14-16

Austin City Limits is a music festival in Austin, Texas that is 6 days long, 2 weekends at a time. This music festival features 9 stages, over 100 performances with tons of activities to do in between. The first weekend of this festival is already sold out which is understandable considering the insane lineup and headliners. The wide variety of genres makes for the $320, 3-day, general admission ticket completely worth it. Austin, Texas is a ways away from Chicago but this is a festival that will please country, pop and indie fans alike.

Lollapalloza July 28-30

At the extremely convenient location of Grant Park from July 28-30 is Lollapalooza. The recent dropout of Doja Cat may lead some to no longer attend but with a decent line-up and a $125, 1-day general admission ticket, you’ll say, ‘Why not?’ as the price does not beat the average concert ticket price of $95.93. Children who are 10 and under also get in for free and get access to Kidapalooza. It’s also accommodating to those with dietary restrictions, including “food for purchase from over 35 award-winning chefs & restaurants including vegan, vegetarian & gluten-free options” . This festival’s strong suit is definitely not big name, mainstream headliners but rising artists like Pinkpanthress and Dominic Fike will still attract many.

Summer Smash June 17-19

In Douglass Park, June 17-19 is Summer Smash. Kicking off summer with everyone’s favorite partners in crime, headliners, Young Thug and Gunna. The lineup includes a mystery artist who is suspected to be Lil Durk. Starting at $275 for a 3-day general admission ticket “get access to a culinary village – and immersive art experiences throughout the festival grounds”. Unlike the other festivals the main genre of this festival is hip-hop so it will not cater to all audiences but it is inclusive to all ages.

Pitchfork Festival July 15-17

A month after Summer Smash in Union park is Pitchfork Music Festival. Pitchfork wants to “maintain a commitment to keeping ticket prices affordable” and prices tickets at $99 for a 1-day general admission ticket and $200 for a 3-day one, children 10 and under may attend for free as well. Pitchfork also focuses on independent artists which explains the lack of abundance in big, mainstream artists.
