Chicago’s Best Summer Festival Bets

Summer Break is fast approaching and along with it, the return of festival season. Here are a few not-to-be-missed spectacles for the Whitney Young community to enjoy.

1. Chicago Pride Fest
Date: June 18 & 19, 11am to 10pm
Location: Grant Park
Description: After a two-year Covid-hiatus,
this summer weekend lineup of concerts is set
to ramp up Chicago for the following weekend’s iconic parade. The festival will see headliners such as Alaska Thunderf*ck, Dorian Electra, and Mila Jam, just to name a few. There will also be food, drinks, crafts, vendors and more fun than you can wave a flag at.

2. Food Truck Fest
Date: June 25 & 26, 11am to 7pm
Location: 1700 S. Wabash Ave., South Loop
Description:
This festival coincides with Chicago’s Pride Parade weekend, and you will definitely not go hungry while waving your flag, with decadent offerings from Tamale Spaceship, Happy Lobster, and Mexi-taco.

3. Lolapolooza
Date: July 28 to 31, 11:00 am to 10:00 pm
Location: Grant Park
Description: An all day, musical extravaganza with some of the biggest names in music. Some notable bands in this year’s roster include Green Day, Kygo, Doja Cat, Dua Lipa, Turnstiles, and Metallica.

4. Old Town Art Fair
Hours: June 11 & 12, 10:00am – 6:00pm
Location: Triangle Association building, 1763 N. North Park Ave.
Description: Held in the heart of Uptown, the Old Town Art Fair contains the workers of over 200 acclaimed artists and offers a garden walk, live music, and a food court.

These are just a small sample of the amazing festivals, concerts, street parties and events that have been planned for the coming months. After multiple summers of social distancing and depressing zoom parties it ’s time to go out and enjoy your city. With so many things going on there really is no excuse not to visit an old favorite or try something new.
