The Covid-19 pandemic has added a new wrinkle to this Whitney Young school year; online learning. E-learning as it is more commonly referred to has been a highly debated topic among the Whitney young student body. From an outsider’s perspective one would believe that Whitney Young students dislike the new E-Learning. When looking on any social media it is easy to find miscellaneous quotes from students bashing the new learning practice and wishing to go back to the way things used to be. Jack Fleck ‘22 stated “If I had the choice I would go back to [normal] school in a heartbeat” beyond this Mr. Fleck also talked about how online school doesn’t really feel like school at all because of an inability to really interact with classmates. But these outspoken voices only seem like a larger group than they truly are. The consensus is out and the Beacon is proud to report from an independent poll that 66% of Whitney young students prefer E-Learning. A member of this 66% is sophomore Miles Maloney he said “I enjoy the fact that I don’t have to commute and that I can come to class in my pajamas”. Another proponent of E-Learning is senior Trinton Moore. Mr. Moore said about E-Learning “this is infinitely better than normal school there is no need for pants and I can turn off my camera whenever I please”. From our poll of three students we now have definitive proof that 66% of students prefer E-Learning.
