My Thoughts on the Inauguration

Waking up this morning, I felt a breeze of hope. As soon as I got out of bed, I sat down with my family and turned on the news. Seeing the immense sense of faith and dignity on TV was beautiful. I was overwhelmed from seeing so many happy and familiar faces. It felt like a new day for our country. I think that the fist bumps that everyone shares are so joyful and positive. Seeing Kamala Harris fist bump Michelle Obama was an incredible moment. Nothing made me smile more than seeing Barack Obama and Joe Biden fist bump. Seeing Obama symbolically pass the torch to Biden was a great moment. The whole inauguration just felt so magical. Even the fashion was talked about for days after. Emily Servin ‘21 said, “Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden were definitely the best dressed.” Lady Gaga’s performance was powerful and breathtaking. Jennifer Lopez delivered a very hopeful and beautiful message through her singing of “This land is your land.” Amanda Gorman’s poem was unbelievably perfect. When asked about her thoughts on the poem, Rosalinda G ‘25 said, “it was the only thing that conveyed true hope for change.”  Joe Biden’s speech was exactly what Americans needed to hear. He was uplifting and reassuring. He delivered hope into every American’s home, no matter their political beliefs. He did not say one negative word or even mention the former president. I am so excited to see what himself and the first lady accomplish in their term, although we have a long way to go. I am very hopeful for the future of America. Even if you haven’t had the time to watch the inauguration yet, like Joe N ‘22 said, “I didn’t watch any of it,” this day will surely be remembered as a beautiful day of hope and dignity.
