They’re back! Recently, CPS informed students about the possibility of Winter sports returning. A meeting between Governor Pritzker and the IDPH will be held in the upcoming week. Their decision will determine whether Winter sports will return November 16th this year. This means that we may be seeing our beloved basketball, volleyball, poms and other winter sports teams back in action. I asked Kayla Triplett ‘21, a senior varsity Whitney Young poms member, how she felt about the possible return of her season. “I’m really excited about the possibility of us returning to dance. Poms means a lot to me and I miss going out there to compete and be with my sisters.”

Varsity Whitney Young basketball manager, Justin Cousins, agreed with Kayla saying, “I miss being out there [on the basketball court] with the guys. We had a great season last year but unfortunately our season was cut short due to corona. I consider this our redemption year. This is our year to bring another championship to the school of champions.” Our Whitney Young athletes are clearly excited and ready to compete once again. I was curious how some of the coaches felt about the news. I asked varsity basketball coach,Tyrone Slaughter, how he felt about the news. He responded by saying, “ Honestly it’s about time. My guys and I have been ready to get back on the court and compete for another championship. We got robbed last year, but this year it’s back to business.” Everybody seems to be ready for the possible start of Winter sports. I know I am! Add a comment below, the Beacon would love to hear how you feel.
