If you’re a high school student then you have probably been on TikTok recently, you might have even been scrolling through the For You page in the past 30 minutes. It has been a good source of entertainment for most people during quarantine and most especially to teenagers. As stated by Kristopher Cain ‘25 “ I enjoy watching videos on TikTok, other apps are boring.”  Well, you won’t be able to get the app after September due to the Trump administration seeing it as a security threat to the users. If you have the app installed already then there is no need to fear, it just means that there will be no more updates to the app.

The real issue being brought to the attention of users of the popular app is being proposed in November. U.S based companies have been trying to make an agreement happen in order to not get TikTok shut down completely, if they can not make it happen before November 12 then it seems like a real threat to the users for it to get terminated. Negotiations seem rough as they need to please the Trump administration.

What does this mean, for the millions of people on the app promoting music, art, and much more? Although some people don’t really care about the app, just like Whitney M. Young alumni Marianna Contreras “It doesn’t really affect me since I don’t have Tiktok.” Others such as senior Brenda Martinez ‘21 state “It would be a big bummer since I know a bunch of people have really been able to promote their art on there.” seem to be upset by the news. It seems to be a loss and would cost a lot of people their form of entertainment or income.
