Trump Attacks Oscar Winning South Korean Film

Recently, at a Colorado rally, President Trump took it upon himself to share his thoughts on the results of the 2020 Oscars, an award ceremony celebrating artistic and technical merit in the film industry. As always, bad and racist opinions were his go-to, and this time he targeted the new foreign film, Parasite, which had earned four Academy Awards, including Best Picture. He said, “The winner is a movie from South Korea. What the hell was that all about?” and continued on with, “We’ve got enough problems with South Korea, with trade… On top of it, they give them the best movie of the year? Was it good? I don’t know.” As if it wasn’t clear enough already, President Trump emphasized one particular flaw with the film: the fact that it was South Korean and nothing more. Aside from that, he did not even take the time to watch the film and yet, continued to criticize it.

For the more popular opinions on our president’s unpopular opinion of the award winning movie, Parasite, the Beacon went to the students of Whitney Young. Amanda Fong ‘20 said, “This is a big step up for Asians all over the world and Trump just needs to keep his mouth shut.” Indeed this is a new addition to the growing recognition of Asians around the world and Genesis Rivera ‘20 agreed with this when she said, “Personally, this was such a good movie and I agree with the Oscars choice to award them with best picture. And Trump should really watch the movie before saying anything about it.”
