Growing Tensions

The growing tensions between Iran and the United States is something on the minds of many students. The unprecedented attack from the United States is making many of the young people question the validity of our president even more than they already did. Mitchelle Mojekwu, ‘20, stated, “I honestly think that Americans are very desensitized to things that happen in other countries tries. I’m not very into the news but what I’m hearing is not good. That’s all I’m gonna say.” This is the case for many students at the school. The severity of what happened is something that is being broadcasted all over social media and is sometimes turned into a joke by the kids and young adults using the apps.

This important problem is being turned into memes by young people that don’t realize the harshness of what is happening. Mia Bruder ‘21, commented, “I don’t really keep up with the news as much as I should but Americans don’t realize this is going to hurt Iran way more than it will hurt us. The war won’t touch American soil. Innocent people will be affected greatly.” Most kids in our school realize that it is a problem that kids are making a joke of something so important. “I think it is so terrible that these things are happening now but I find it really insensitive that kids are making memes. Even though it affects all of us it mostly affects the people in Iran because our so called president went and killed their leader. As my dad always says one man’s enemy is another person’s freedom fighter, so honestly it’s just terrible and I really hope that world war 3 isn’t upon us because knowing that nuclear weapons are available can lead to great destruction,” said Gayun Cannon, ‘20. It is a good thing that most kids in our community agree with this opinion because our future depends on them.
