Alleviate College Decision Stress

Casey Wangman

It’s Senior Season, December is quickly approaching, and that means that college decisions are right around the corner. Whether you have submitted Early Action applications, Early Decision, or are waiting to submit final Regular Decision apps, we figured we would give you some useful tips on how to take care of yourself and keep stress at a minimum.

Simply staying organized is a great way to alleviate your stress. Marking deadlines, and keeping all your materials in order are bare necessities. Try googling “college spreadsheets” and downloadable templates will be at your fingertips. These are a great tool to make sure you have everything submitted and have a good understanding of your schools. Clean your google drive! Make a designated folder for all of your schools, including your essays and other items you may need in each individual folder.

Make sure you are still getting enough sleep. You may be scrambling to stay on top of your classwork and write all of your supplemental essays, but you can only perform at your best if you are well-rested. By sleeping at least 8-9 hours you can drastically improve your focus and write essays of higher quality.

Feeling stuck in the writing process? A great way to generate ideas is to workout. Go to the gym and hop on the bike. While engaging your body in a physical workout, you can also stimulate your mind and come up with some of your best ideas!

Lastly, make sure you are checking in with yourself. Take the time you need to do the things you enjoy. If you need help, there are great teachers and counselors who will gladly take the time to guide you through the process. Don’t be afraid to ask for help.
