Juice Wrld Passing

On December 8, 2019, Chicago rapper and songwriter, Jarad Anthony Higgins, professionally known as Juice Wrld, passed away. He had arrived at Midway Airport, where he suffered from a seizure and shortly passed away after being admitted in Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. His death was unexpected and shook his fans, who were quick to stream his music after hearing the news. 

Juice Wrld was only 21 years old, not much older than some students at Whitney Young and their friends. Although Juice Wrld had a history of drug use, teenagers around the country are still shocked that something like this can happen to someone so young. Caleb Dunson ‘20 says, “it’s sad to see a lot of young Black artists dying, I hope this trend doesn’t continue.” This sentiment is shared by Jimi Taiwo ‘20 who says, “I would always bump his music at a function because he makes straight bangers. It is such a shame that a generational, once in a lifetime, progressive visionary would pass away due to the feds. F*** 12.” Jimi’s reference to the “feds” is made in regard to allegations that Juice Wrld suffered a seizure due to swallowing Percocet pills, afraid to get caught by investigators. This is only a rumor and his death is still under investigation, after his autopsy lead to inconclusive results. No matter the reason behind his death, Juice Wrld was still an influential artist, one that hundreds of teenagers across the country looked up to. RIP Juice, 999.
