Yogurt is a delicious, creamy, and just all-around a reliable snack that can be eaten in a variety of situations. Dallas Gray, ‘21, exclaims “I love starting my day off with a nice refreshing cup of yogurt. It really gets me going and focused for the rest of my day.” As a fan of yogurt myself, I couldn’t agree more.

Yogurt is a product of the bacterial fermentation of milk. In order to make yogurt one must heat milk to a specific temperature range, usually around 180 degrees Fahrenheit, which kills the unwanted bacteria in the milk. Then the milk must be cooled to around 112 and 115 degrees so that when the good bacteria get added they can thrive and do their thang. The bacteria that gets added is what makes the yogurt all creamy and textured. After learning about the dazzling yogurt creation process Jeremy Cho, ‘20, says “Wow that is so interesting. I had no idea that yogurt was so complicated to make.”

Not only is yogurt a fantastic snack it also has a plethora of health benefits. Yogurt is a food that has almost all the essential nutrients for the human body. It contains calcium, loads of B vitamins, magnesium, potassium, and many more. In addition, some yogurts even have probiotics that are beneficial to digestive health. An alum and current D1 athlete, Akil Mitchell, ‘19, states “Yogurt is part of my daily diet because of how many nutrients it has plus it is also very filling.”
