From wearing pajamas on Monday to rocking class colors on Thursday, the Whitney Young Homecoming week was a huge success! The Homecoming Pep Rally brought up the students’ excitement for the game later that day and the dance on Saturday. “I thought all of the performances were great, everything ran smoothly, and the energy of the crowd was much appreciated,” explains Leah Ollie ‘21.

This year, many teams and individual students were recognized for accomplishments from this year, and other students were recognized for accomplishments from last year that weren’t mentioned at the time. Dr. Kenner took time to acknowledge all of the faculty and staff that make all of the school activities run as smooth as possible. The crowd screamed in excitement when the Cheerleading team performed without any mistakes in the stunts and the Poms team impressed everyone with their tricks in their two solid performances. Many of those who participated were happy with the results. “Performing in the pep rally was really exciting and fun. It gave me an adrenaline rush which gave me more energy,” says Ryan Southworth ‘23. The Guys and Dolls dance team showcased their stellar moves and the band did an amazing job playing throughout the Pep Rally. Even though the entire Pep Rally was extremely fun, some students felt as though their classmates should have shown more support for Whitney Young’s Homecoming. Alondra Lonzano ‘20 notes, “I wish our class had more pep. I was sitting in the front having a great time with my friends, and when I looked behind me, no one had the same energy.” Overall, the Homecoming Pep Rally was a great way for the students to celebrate their school and celebrate the last home game for our football team.
