Homecoming Season

Once again, it’s fall and everyone knows what that means; it’s homecoming season at Whitney Young.  On October 7th, 2019, homecoming week finally started.  That means that it was time for the festivities and spirit days.  Homecoming is the time when everyone in the school can get involved.  It doesn’t only apply to one grade, even though seniors normally take over during this time.  Regardless, this is still a time that people of all ages could be excited for.

In true senior fashion, Tacarra Meaux, ‘20 states, “I’m excited for homecoming.  I’ve been waiting for this for six years and I’m finally getting to experience it as a senior.”

Although the majority of the senior class have waited four years for this moment, a good bunch of us have waited six long years.  After seeing a gigantic mob of seniors run through the halls when we were little measly 7th graders, the opportunity to do this definitely feels like an accomplishment.

“Homecoming week is so fun.  I get to hang out with my friends and have a good time,” says Siena Navarro, ‘22.

Students who are not seniors also can have a fun time.  Yes, being the oldest in the school and doing senior activities is fun and all, but this week (along with the rest of the school year) is a time for students to spend time with friends.  Regardless of what year you’re in, remember to spend lots of time with your friends because speaking from experience, high school really does fly by.

Jiajun Yun, ‘21 notes, “I personally am not too excited about it [homecoming], but it’s fun to see everyone participating and showing school spirit.”

Some students don’t really care about homecoming and that’s okay; it’s understandable to not enjoy seeing loud and rowdy students.

Homecoming is the time of year that majority of the students enjoy.  It’s a week full of spirit, fun, and joy. For seniors, this is the last Homecoming we will have at school.  Additionally, this is a time of relaxation before the dreadful November 1st (early college deadline); it’s basically the calm before the storm.  For all the other grades, this is normally a stress-free time, unless of course, you wear black. But in the end, this is a nice time for everyone to have fun and spend time with friends, so be sure to go to the football game and the dance!
