Perspective on College

College to many aspiring, young people is seen as a necessity in today’s day and age. It is not surprising to see why.

A few students who have been through the college process or are going through it weigh in on the topic.

Bryce Lusterio, ‘19,  points out how “college is something that’s pushed as a norm in our society and we’re taught to follow the school system.”

“College provides the necessary skills and education that one needs for a job, and also prepares you for life,” says Jeremy Cho, ‘20.

“Growing up, I’ve been told that college is important and it seems like many jobs expect you to have a degree of some sort,” notes Jack Fleck, ‘22.

The technological revolution has caused the job market to change in ways no one could ever imagine. There are computer scientists now who’s job is to create algorithms that make their own algorithms. As a result of the tech boom, jobs have become more specialized than ever before. Gone are the days of everyone and their mother needing to farm just to have a steady source of food. Machines are taking over low skill jobs; they not only more efficient than humans could ever dream of being but are also far more cost-effective.

With the changing landscape of today’s economy, college is becoming more essential to having a successful career.
