Bullying

Kyla Jones, Writer

When asked to make a serious video on any topic of choice, it was hard for Kyla Jones ’19, Beacon reporter,  to decide what topic to do. She thought about things such as consent, sexual assault, or world hunger. Although these are serious topics, they were not something she would want to make a video on. Finally, Kyla Jones decided to make her serious video on “Bullying.” She decided to make a video on this because she felt as if it was something that a lot of people do not realize is happening. There are also many forms of Bullying that go beyond people’s general idea of Physical Bullying. Sexual Bullying, Prejudicial Bullying, Relational Bullying, Verbal Abuse, and even Cyberbullying are all forms of bullying that many people do not realize. Diamond Stiles ‘20 says “I never realized how many forms of bullying their are.” Kyla wanted to show people that there are other ways people can be participating in bullying outside of the ways it is generally portrayed in. Yazmin Mosi ‘21 says “The movies always portray a Bully as the cool kid who picks on the nerds. Putting them in lockers and stealing their lunches.” Kyla hopes that the video she created opens up people’s eyes to allowing them to see that just because you are not stuffing someone in a locker, there are many others ways that you could be a bully or that you could even stop a bully by knowing these different forms.
