With Black history month coming right around the corner, I was asked to look back on some of the most influential African American people throughout my young life. While looking through many different teachers, and influencers I stumbled upon a mentor and a close friend of mine, Anthony Washington. I met Anthony back in January of the 4th grade at Windy City Fieldhouse. I was getting ready for my first workout session with my new trainer and coming from a private school in a predominantly white neighborhood, I did not have many african-american influencers in my life. For the first few months I only new Anthony as a trainer, I found him to be hardworking and determined while maintaining a supportive attitude. We clicked because of our shared love of basketball and how he drove me to be my best. After about two years worth of working out together and learning about Anthony and his past, I learned alot about not only himself, but myself as well. Through my own failures along with those of his past, I learned how to motivate myself and others. I learned to attack my problems head on and set goals for myself to succeed.
