The Guys and Dolls dance company was really phenomenal on Saturday night when I watched them. The time, patience, practice and techniques that were displayed throughout the whole show was not only amazing but mesmerizing as well. Before the show I asked a fellow classmate of mine, Alex Strong about what to expect for a show like this since he went to their opening on Friday. He said, “ You will love it Rasul, no cap! Like, this show has always been amazing, the dance company is always fantastic, just, just go in and see for yourself,” and with that I did. Let the show begin.

The company started out slow, introducing a peice by Kristin Reid with music by Sam Smith. I really enjoyed this piece with the focus and cunning moves the dancers performed to show me even more exciting pieces were in store. Waiting for my good friend Nyla David’s piece, we had sort of a short intermission where we could buy snacks and discuss the things we liked about the show to other spectators. I asked a mother what she thought so far of the performance and she said, “ I love the GnD Company, honestly they are all fantastic, I don’t care what anyone says,” and I thought so as well.

Later after the break I got to witness my friend, Nyla David’s “Taking it Back” piece referencing a time where it was just a man’s world. But throughout the dance she and her crew changed that statement. The sways, flips and poses showed it now isn’t just a man’s world but a woman’s too, empowering femininity.. I asked Nyla after the show if she felt nervous and did she enjoy performing, she said, “ No Rasul, I don’t get nervous when I dance with my gals, and I definitely enjoyed performing for you guys and would do it again in a heartbeat.”

Thanks again to Dr. Kenner and FOWY for supporting such an event. I had a great time, as the dancers did,  I’m sure. The show was amazing, the dancers picked the right songs, and the pieces were out of this world. I’m glad I got to witness such artwork. I would definitely suggest seeing their springtime performance if you weren’t planning to, and if you are a dedicated fan like I just became, I can’t wait to see the next show.
