Did Poms get robbed at City?

Jide Olukoya

If you don’t already know, our defending City Champion Poms team recently competed for the City Championship. After winning city last year, the Poms team was under a lot of heat. Many students who go to Kenwood were upset that their school’s pom team didn’t win. This led to them rambling on twitter about nonsense like saying that the judges cheated for Whitney Young. Anybody with sense knows that the judges weren’t from Whitney Young or the coaches of the Poms team some that allegation makes absolutely no sense. Since I didn’t go to the city competition and I’m not on Poms; I decided to ask some of the girls on the Poms team how they got robbed exactly. Leilani Williamson ‘20 believes that they were judged incorrectly. “Poms is a dance competition, not a stunting competition, so we should’ve won. It’s all about politics.” Khloe Wright ‘21 also believes that politics played a part. “It’s political because it was our home turf and they didn’t want to make it seem like we had an advantage.” Nariya Douglas ‘19 believes that there has been some unspoken changes in terms of rules. “The game is changing and I don’t know if we should adhere to the rules or stick to what we know.” In our hearts, Poms are the city champs. Hopefully whatever went wrong can be fixed in future competitions.
