The Whitney Young Boys Soccer team is a supportive and exciting community for soccer fanatics. There are three levels in the program: FroshSoph, JV, and Varsity. Whether you’ve been playing soccer for 10 years or you are just barely starting, there is a spot for you on the team. Tryouts are held mid-August and are three days of nonstop soccer. “Tryouts are rough, but they’re very fun. You get to meet new players as well as meet with your teammates from last year, and create a bond right from the beginning of the season,” says Eric Catania ‘18, a varsity member of the team. After tryouts, there is practice everyday, except for ga

The first game of the season is always against one of the top teams in the state: Lyons Township. Gabriel “Pepe” Perez Regalado ‘19, a varsity soccer player comments, “That first game is really rough. We usually lose 7-0 but we take this loss as a learning experience. We always start off a little patchy but we try to build on that annual loss and see what we need to work on to make our season successful.”

Alex Rodea, a true legend in the Whitney Young Soccer program says, “Playing soccer for the Dolphins has been an honor and I will truly miss the boys and Coach McCarthy. Being on the team helped me make my first friends at Whitney Young and gave me something to look forward to everyday.” There is no doubt that the Boys Soccer team has created a heartening environment for its members who work hard every day with the goal of becoming the best high school team in the city and state.
