Thursday’s are the new Friday’s thanks to Shonda Rhimes and TGIT (Thank God It’s Thursday). TGIT is a compilation of drama shows on the ABC network all created by director and producer Shonda Rhimes. Recommended for all audiences above the age of 13 watch TGIT for the most exciting shows in television today.

 

Grey’s Anatomy: Grey’s Anatomy is a show following the life of a surgeon named Meredith Grey, played by Ellen Pompeo , at a Seattle Hospital. It first aired in 2005 and now on its 13th season it is still loved by millions nationwide. Jessica Smith ‘19, an avid tv watcher claims, “Grey’s Anatomy is the best, I mean absolute best. I don’t think it can be topped.” Watchers who have been watching since the beginning believe by the end of the show they too are doctors. The show is complex with many layers. It starts with just the surgical intern Meredith Greg but slowly you are introduced to her friends and family who you will learn to laugh and cry with. You are on the edge of your seat the whole episode whether it’s watching a tricky surgery or just wondering how relationships will rise and fall. Watch Greys if you want to become invested in a eye-opening show.

 

Scandal: Scandal revolves around the life of Olivia Pope, played by Kerry Washington, where she acts as a media consultant/crisis manager for powerful individuals around Washington D.C.. This show has also been airing for awhile with its first episode appearing in 2012 and now on season 6. You will want to watch this show if you’re interested in politics and familial problems. It features moments that will leave you craving for the next Thursday. Brandon Wu ‘18, Scandal’s #1 fan said, “One day I want to be Olivia Pope. She is so strong and complicated. I love her.” Scandal comes on right after Grey’s so watch at 8 for some more fun.

 

How to Get Away With Murder: If you love Viola Davis  and her acting skills, watch this show to see her power. How to get Away With Murder focuses on Annalise Keating, a professor/ lawyer who becomes mixed up in a series of murders. The unique concept about this show is that it goes both forwards and backwards. You will see the event then start from the beginning to figure who did it and how. Another plus is it features a powerful black woman which is not that evident in today’s television.

 

The Catch: The Catch, the newest edition to TGIT, is about a private investigator who gets scammed by her fiancé with him taking millions of dollars from her. The show shows her solving cases while at the same time trying to get her money and find her fiancé. “The Catch is new and exciting. Shonda produces the best work I recommend this to other Shonda lovers”, Gabriella Hernandez ‘17. This show is different from the others as it is a little more comedic also. If you’re looking for a lighter show to watch, watch The Catch.
TGIT is crucial to households around the country. It brings people together for some good ole fashioned television. Starting at 7 and ending at 10 you have 3 hours of some of the the best work on television. Even if you already watch one of these shows and not the others, try something new and you may fall in love.
