The Whitney Young Boys Varsity Basketball Team will be going downstate this week! After two outstanding wins since last Friday, the team has advanced to the State Semi-Finals in Peoria, Illinois. Last Friday, the Dolphins reigned 2017 4A Sectional Champions over the Oak Park-River Forest Huskies with a score of 73-55. “The win over Oak Park-River Forest was great, but that is not what we are here for. Our focus is to win a state championship,” said Junior Captain, Xavier Castaneda.

Just yesterday, March 14, 2017, the Dolphins earned the title of Super-Sectional Champions which means they automatically advance downstate to compete in the Final Four. The Dolphins played the Evanston Wildkits and beat them by a score of 67-59. It was a great game with three dominating players. Junior guard, Xavier Castaneda had 20 points, 5 assists, 5 steals. Senior forward, Lucas Williamson had 17 points and 6 rebounds. Junior guard, Javon Freeman, continued his outstanding season with 23 points and 7 rebounds. “It was a challenging road to get downstate, but we are here now and we will prove to everyone that Whitney Young is the School of Champions,” said  Senior Captain, Lucas Williamson.

There will be a pep rally on Thursday, March 16, 2017 to send the Dolphins off downstate. It will take place at 8:00 AM in Gym A. The next game will be on Friday, March 17, 2017 against the Fremd Vikings at 5:30 PM. The last two games of the season will be at the Carver Arena in Peoria, Illinois. Junior, Javon Freeman has the final word. ” I am excited for what is to come next. We have come too far to give up now. We are going to win the State title and bring the trophy back home.”
